The MCE embarks on a COVID-19 monitoring exercise

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Helena Appiah embarked on COVID-19 monitoring with the municipality on Thursday 28th January, 2021.

Hon. Helena Appiah together with the Municipal Coordinating Director, Director of Health, Director of Operations, Heads of Departments, and the Assembly task force visited public places including lorry stations, restaurants, and food joints to observe how they were adhering to the protocols that the government has put in place.

She and her team ensured proper compliance to the wearing of nose masks by drivers, passengers, hawkers, residents, traders, and their customers as well as hand washing and social distancing at recreational centers. The team had with them a checklist for the restaurants, hotels, and other recreational centers which they ensure that all have been adhered to.

Hon. Helena Appiah advised traders, drivers, hawkers, and residents to be very cautious in their dealings to protect themselves from the disease. She went on to say that the monitoring will be done for the whole week to create awareness which will be followed by strict enforcement by the police and the task force where offenders will be punished. In as much as this was just monitoring, the MCE did not only warn those who flouted the rules but forced them to do the right thing especially with the wearing of nose masks, and made provision for those who did not have one. She punished some offenders who were not in nose masks to sweep their surroundings.

Hon. Helena Appiah lauded the leadership of lorry stations visited for adhering to the protocols and encouraged them to keep doing the needful. She also charged the leaders of lorry stations, restaurants, and other public places to ensure that their customers strictly adhere to the protocols before they attend to them.
